Quraish has four verses that run on as one grammatical whole. The first states a ground; the second says it again and specifies it by two journeys, one in winter, one in summer. The word used is rendered sometimes as a covenant, sometimes as a security grown habitual. The third verse draws the consequence, introduced by a connector: a call to worship the Lord of a House the text points to without naming it further. The fourth gives two things received, food against hunger and safety against fear, stated one after the other in one same construction.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh -
إِۦلَٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer -
فَلْيَعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ
Let them worship the Lord of this House,
ٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍۢ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍۭ
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
What is surah Quraish about?
Of a group named from the first word, of what it enjoys, and of what the text concludes from it. The surah tells no story: it recalls two regular journeys, moves straight to a call, and ends on what was given to them.
What does surah Quraish ask for?
One thing only, in the third verse: to worship the Lord of the House it points to. The request is introduced by a connector of consequence, which ties it to the two previous verses. The fourth backs it with two gifts, food and safety.
Which House does surah Quraish speak of?
The text writes “this House” and says nothing more of it: no name, no location, no description. It then speaks of its Lord as the one who fed and made safe. The surah keeps to that, in two words.
How is surah Quraish built?
In two halves. The first two verses do not advance: the second takes up the word of the first and extends it to two journeys. The last two advance: an order, then its reason. The whole sentence holds in one piece, from first word to last.
Why is surah Quraish called that?
“Quraish” is the name of a group, given in the first verse. The surah therefore bears the name of those its call concerns. The word appears only once, at the head; the three following verses speak of them without naming them again.
